My Nightly Routine

Night time is the best. It’s the time where the world gets sleepy and quiet. As women it’s time to talk to the moon and reset for the next day to come. It’s easy for the night to slip away distracted and uneventful. But ladies, for something to be eventful it doesn’t mean it has to be detrimental or life changing over night.

For the longest time I struggled to find a night routine that was beneficial and one I could stick to without feeling guilty for missing it every once in a while. As I steer away from perfection, it’s important to value consistently and respecting myself where I am on any given day. Which, most of the time, results in better consistent results.

The Last Night Time Skin Care Step — Sleeping Mask/Facial oil

After my Typology PM routine 🌙, I’ll always seal up my skin with my facial oil or my sleeping mask. Depending on if my AC is going to be on while I’m sleeping. You should always consider that the cool air coming out of air conditioners are very drying to the skin. A hydrating sleeping mask sealed in with a facial oil is the best case scenario for the cherry on top of your evening skin care routine. The Typology CBD facial oil absorbs so beautifully by the way that there’s a lot less wait time for the skin to adjust and not feel super oily. Seeing as I wear glasses this is really important to me!

This is the first step in my night time routine simply because it’s best to give your skin care 1-2 hours to sink in before going to bed. We don’t want all those amazing benefits sinking into the pillow instead of the face! PLUS I don’t know about you, but when my face feels good going to bed I always get a good rest. ANDDD, I wake up feeling motivated to do my morning skin care as well.

On the nights that you absolutely can’t bring yourself to the bathroom vanity (me 3x this week already), do a gentle cleanse and seal with an oil before bed. A little something is better than doing nothing at all for your poor skin!

Start Gratitude Journaling Tonight!!

Before you click off!! This doesn’t have to be a long journal entry (although—). Every night isn’t going to be the same. I strongly suggest having another journey near by to catch any other thoughts. It’s best to keep your gratitude journal solely focused on gratitude. It can be as simple as being grateful that you got the bed done today. This habit alone has comforted me on days where I felt like the funky feeling was insurmountable. Because, there’s always at least one thing you can be grateful for.

Plus it takes all your focus. Your mind is focusing on the positive! How lucky to live this life we are. How we define luck is directly correlated to how much time we take to appreciate the beautiful mundane. Something about being grateful always finds a way to give you more to be grateful about. One of the first things that comes to mind when something good happens is to write my gratitude for it. It makes what’s happening feel more special!

Even the smallest things once it’s out of my head. It just feels good to be happy about something that can happen any time at any place. It’s a freeing feeling because with all that’s going on in the world. Our focus is better spent on the things that make us smile every day!

gratitude ideas:

  • making the bed in the morning (bonus! because you already got one task done with your eyes barely open!)

  • enjoying breakfast (bonus! its going to fuel your through to lunch and you’ll more than likely get more done!)

  • getting a task from the day done (remember! one is always better than none!)

  • remembering to drink water (we’re hydrated this summer and beyond!!!)

  • spending some time outside (you’d be surprised what a good breeze and some sunshine could do)

  • work accomplishment (I don’t care if you were told to do it! you still got it done!)

Cerave Healing Ointment or Your Favorite Occlusive!!

Okay!! So once the skin care is done, this is the part for your occlusive layer. This is supposed to keep in all the goodness that has absorbed into your skin and not let it dry out. Remember that when you put on the glazed donut layer before bed its a thin layer! Think Krispy Kreme! It should be all absorbed by the time the morning comes. It isn’t something that needs to be washed out, because it should be fully absorbed after 8 hours.

This also isn’t just for your face either! I love putting this on my lips and cuticles too! This is a perfect layer to help skin overall to retain moisture. My cuticles in particular have benefitted so much from a bit of Cerave through out the day. Combine this with hand lotion or a lip mask? 10/10/10 lazy way to wake up feeling like an angel straight out of heaven!

I would even say we could experiment with this for rough feet! A thick lotion with some cerave healing ointment to seal it all up? Protected with some socks? A genius idea if you ask me!
