The Joy of Makeup
Makeup is one of my favorite pastimes. It melts away any outside focus, and brings me to a place to play. Taking the time to consider which eye shadow palette I’ll use. And, what kind of finish I want on my skin is such a magical feeling. There’s nothing that’s quite the same on that.
Using Up Your Makeup Favorites
Girl, it works. You look good! Keep using it. I understand it’s limited edition, but, you are too. Makeup is precious for how it makes us feel during and after the process. And the way we make the most out of our beloved products is by getting the most out of them we can. It’s a different kind of joy to treat yourself to the best available.
The quality of abundance and availability is all around us! Even if we don’t restock, we will replace. There’s going to be something that does the job we need and give us joy while we do it! The easiest way to get into the habit of feeling good while you get ready is to use products that feel good to use! Hello, girl math!
These are the two eyeshadow palettes I’m trying to use up in particular (with a bit of a story time built into the caption!
It’s All in the Skin Care Prep
Doing your skin care routine before starting makeup is non-negotiable. It protects makeup seeping into your skin and makes it so that there’s an even canvas. Layering is also included in the prep of makeup. At every step in the process you want the makeup to look fresh and balanced.
There’s also different prep considerations if you’re going full glam or leaning into me but with concealer style makeup. The more product is going on your face and neck. The more you want to make sure the skin is moisturized when you start and being misted throughout the process. Even if you have oily skin! With makeup we’re covering up how our skin breaths. At least give her some moisture!
If the time is available do a nice sheet mask or hydrating face mask to give that red carpet glow from within.
I especially love Farmacy’s Honey Potion mask for this! The warming sensation is perfect for the cooler weather around the corner.
Thinking About Eyeshadow and Undertone
The color in the pan is going to look different on your lid. Besides considering any kind of discoloration on the lids— consider undertone! The undertone of your skin could help you find color families that conceal and compliment the skin. Making the color of the eyeshadow do more of the work for you!
Neutrals especially have a way of getting really muddy and messing looking when we blend and something is off with our undertone match. I always advocate for less being more when it comes to the amount of eyeshadow being put on the lid at once. That’s why even a light wash of a single eyeshadow might end up looking messy on the lid or overall sink in the eyes.
Experiment with finding colors and color ranges that work for you at any price point too! Just promise me you’ll start to experiment with new colors and blending different colors together! I find it easiest to refer to an actual color wheel for these instances. Are you team neutrals or more bold colors?
