Where Your Dream Style Goes to Die?| sincerely, yoli - Issue #7

When you become comfortable in your own skin, it's a return to form. The journey there isn't what you'd think, though.

Attacking your closet:

Do you really feel like you don't look good in anything you own? Are you sure? You've taken the time to put on every piece and what's in your closet is not serving you and giving what it needs to give! Start small and buckle up. This is gonna be an all out pursuit.

Consider your goodbyes: an old high school prep rally shirt, holey sweats, those sneakers you've worn into the ground. Think of the things you haven't worn in years? Do you know why?

In this process, you'll make space. Emotional and physical space to redefine the kind of person you want to be and how that would look like. You deserve to go out every day looking and feeling like you are that girl. The thing I've noticed about the most stylish people, they're always dressing for themselves first.

You'll collect pieces that speak to you and breathe some life into you. You won't be able to help smiling in the mirror!! There's no shame in your shopping game!!! Have fun in exploring one aesthetic or multiple. It's fun to show yourself that you could be whoever you want on a random Thursday.

It's Not Going to Look the Same on You!

Learn what looks good on your body.

I had a complete outlook shift when I went down the Youtube rabbit hole of the Kibbe body type videos. They helped me understand the beauty in different types of bodies, so in turn, a different way to view mines.

This video from Aly Art really started me down the rabbit hole.

You'll be more drawn to things that flatter you and make you feel the most beautiful; Giving you a new perspective that allows self love to reflect back at you in the mirror.

Keep reminding yourself that rules of fashions and body types are only guides. When you put on a piece, your gut takes lead. If your heart sings, you're headed in the right direction. No predetermined rules, guides or aesthetics will capture your unique beauty perfectly. Explore being outside the box. That's where the fun is to be had! Ever heard of knowing the rules then breaking them?

You weren't ever meant to fit someone else's mold. With practice, you train your eyes.

Diversifying Inspiration:

When you make something your own, you'll find joy in it every time. If you feel like there's nothing for you, diversify by digging beyond the surface. Use a Pinterest board and challenge yourself to find an outfit one piece at a time. Learn about complimentary clothes and how to pull off monochrome. Reverse photo search an images. Search your style on Instagram. Look up what people are wearing in different countries that is considered stylish. It doesn't have to be popular here and now. Fashion has a way of surprising you! When you make something your own, you'll find joy in it every time. Step into boutiques and mom and pop shops you've never been in before!

What I've been doing:

I'm currently in the process of discovering a new style, exploring it and making it my own. I'm a "clean aesthetic" girl, wrapped up in a Hispanic body trying to find the middle ground between the "french girl aesthetic" and modesty. Though the stockings and whisper thin white tees aren't something I'm getting behind, I live for the modern silhouettes and blazers with intentional hair. The essence for the hair being functionality, without losing personality. Super sleeked buns or perfectly tousled bed head makes for angry curls, in my experience.

Could this be my dream aesthetic???

This video from Mina helped me understand why the French Girl aesthetic feels so personal to me! What would you define as your dream aesthetic? Let me know by replying to this newsletter email.
